A Party for 1!

It's amazing to me that my little E is already 1. We have been rather blessed with a great kid that is charming and joyful. Despite having repeated ear infections and getting tubes for his first birthday.

We celebrated with a little party with our family and some friends. It was simple, nothing over the top. Our close by family comes in at just about 40 people. My in-laws, out-laws and their kids are 20 alone, then my family with aunts, cousins and grandparents are another 18.

The planning of this party was more difficult than it should have been. This is because I was an event planner in a previous job and truly enjoy planning events. The problem I was running into was the size of our house. It's just too small for 40 people to be inside, it's just over 1,000 sq feet. On the plus side we have a half acre fenced in backyard. The perfect place for a party as long as the weather cooperates. The week leading up to the  party did not look good. We had forecasted rain of 60% all day.

We set out a canopy, camp chairs, had cornhole, and hillbilly golf out in the yard. My dad made a new board for our tree swing. This was the highlight of the party for the 9 nieces and nephews.

The theme was vintage airplanes. "Time flies when you're having fun, Little E is turning one!" My aunt made the best decorations. I showed her some sample ideas from Pinterest and she ran with it. We had model airplanes pulling a Happy Birthday banner under the awning by the food, and another model plane flying through the clouds. Each cloud had a month milestone picture of E on one side and a cute picture from that month on the other. Then there were white balloons set to look like Toy Story clouds around the canopy.

The food was simple with a create your own sandwich with choice of deli meat (ham or turkey), cheese (colby, american or swiss), and bread (white or wheat). Two varieties of watermelon, pink or yellow, chips (Ruffles and tortilla), pretzels and salsa on the side. Then we had cake. I got the cake at Costco and it was amazing! White cake with vanilla mousse filling. This is a family go to for events that need a great cake at a good price.

E's personal cake was homemade with sprinkles on the top. Boy oh boy did he like his cake. He dug into the cake! This was not his first cake experience either. We even found cake on the canopy above where he was sitting 2 days later when we were taking it down.

It turned out to be a hot but pretty day out. It sprinkled twice during the party but the kids just played in the rain and the adults pulled in tight under the canopy and patio awning to stay dry.

My husband, T, set up music for the party playing a Pandora mix through his guitar amp. The music and the bubbles (machine and wands) we had out for the kids kept everyone entertained.

I was exhausted after the party but was so glad everyone could come and have fun.
